Sweet Swingin Revelation

I went to work today, but didn't stay much longer than an hour. Didn't have a whole lot to work on and mentally I just didn't feel like being there so I checked out. Eventually I ended up walking to the park not too far from my apartment (It was a beautiful day out). I jump on the swings, The National Anthem (of the Radiohead variety) came on the iPod, and life was somewhat feeling good.

As I was swingin I started to think about "the pump" again. So I begin to experiment and FINALLY I think I've got it figured out! It seems to me that your legs actually have nothing to do with getting you to swing better. It all comes from what your upper body is doing. You kind of put your upper body to the front or back of the swing and the location of the weight gets you swinging well in the opposite direction. Then when you're pumping you're basically just using your legs as counterweights to keep you from falling off of the swing altogether. SO! If my theory is correct, if you have a lot of upper body weight (and enough leg weight to counter it) that is what will make you swing better. Not heavier shoes.

We need to have a swing off. Two people on the opposite ends of the physical spectrum...

Got it! Next time I'm home...
Me vs. the chump of a gump- Elmo!!!
